Room Five - The Birth of Jesus
Time: approximately 10 minutes
Estimated Cost: $115,997
Scripture: Luke chapter 2, John chapter 1
This room is one of the largest in the museum and will house 8 different scenes. It is challenging in terms of all the scenery. This room will start with the angel Gabriel speaking to Mary and will span through time until Jesus is 12 years old at the temple. Throughout the room there will be murals to expand the space, narrative and dramatic voice-overs, video, and special lighting to complete your experience.
As you enter the room a small dimly lit sectioned-off area greets you. In this space you will witness the Angel Gabriel tell Mary that she will bear the Son of God. As the scene with Mary disappears another scene emerges adjacent. Here you will witness Joseph lying in his bed as the Angel appears to him in his dream.
When the lights go down on Joseph’s scene small lights on the floor shine to guide your footsteps through an archway and into the next sectioned area. This area is rolling hills of green pasture that seem to go on forever. Some sheep and shepherds are up close to you and some are far off. Sounds of sheep baying can be heard. When you enter this area it is daylight but after a moment the lights dim to dusk and then to dark. Stars appear in the night sky. As the stars grab your attention an angel appears in the sky. The shepherds closest to you move to look the angel’s way. The angel recites the scripture in Luke 2:10-12 telling of the birth of a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. Then, just as the scripture states, the sky will be filled with a multitude of angels praising God. You will stand there in the field with the shepherds witnessing this awesome moment just as if you were there at the time it really happened. As the angels fade in the sky a guiding star moves over the path where you stand. With the star overhead and the lights shining along the path you will be directed to continue your journey over a rolling hill, a small bridge, and into the next sectioned area.
Next you enter the town of Bethlehem. The star overhead continues until it rests over a building in the corner of town. As you stroll through Bethlehem you see the Inn, where there was no room for Mary and Joseph, as well as other town buildings on either side of your path. In the corner is the manger scene we have all come accustomed to seeing at Christmas time. Mary and Joseph watch over their new born laying in the manger. The baby coos as you and the various animals look on.
As you continue along the guided path, there are planned scenes to show the house where Jesus was a toddler and the wise men came bearing gifts, a scene showing Mary teaching a small Jesus the scriptures, and a scene showing Joseph teaching a child aged Jesus his craft of carpentry.
In the last portion of this room you will enter through a gate that leads you into Jerusalem. The main focus of this area is on the stairs up to the temple. Through a voice over dramatization you will hear the story told in Luke 2:41-51 when Jesus was 12 years old and his parents found him teaching the teachers in the temple.
At the conclusion of this scene you will be directed to go up the steps of the temple and through the temple door. As you pass through the temple door you enter the next room … Room Six … The Temptation of Jesus in the Desert.
